Peace of Mind (Gloria Bennett) 3

Exactly, where the story was cut off from part 2.

Once Abigail hung up the phone she began to ask as many people as she could about Emily once more. She had no luck whatsoever. Finally she decided to ask Kevin, the host of the party as well as the person who lived in the house.
“Hey, hi, Kevin, have you seen Emily lately?” asked Abigail.
“Last time I saw her, she was by the swimming pool, but that was like two hours ago or so, why?” answered Kevin in a very easy-going tone.
“Well, I’m sure it’s nothing, but I haven’t seen Emily for about the same time too,” explained Abigail, “Do you happen to-” Abigail was interrupted by some extremely loud teenager.
“Oh, hey sorry, I won’t take long. Kevin, there’s no more beer, no beer means no party. What should we do? The guests are getting restless.”
“No worries, Eric. I stashed a load of beer inside the shed, way out in the backyard behind the pool. My parents have no idea. I’m the only one with the key, let’s go and get some right now,” replied Kevin, proud of his cleverness. They both turned around and walked away, but Kevin quickly came back and said, “I’ll be right back, hold that thought, okay Abby?”
“Sure, no problem,” answered Abigail fiddling with a napkin. As Kevin and Eric walked away, Abigail could not stop fiddling with napkins, she would stretch and tear them apart. For the first time ever, she was genuinely concerned for Emily. The party was so grand in every way, it’s understandable to lose track of certain guests, but for over two hours? That doesn’t sound likely or coincidental. While Abigail was about ready to rip into pieces the fifth napkin, Kevin along with Eric were already outside making their way to the shed.
“This party is amazing!” exclaimed Eric, “And that, Abby chick is hot. When are you going to make your move?”
“I don’t know man. I’ve been hearing some strange things about her. Ever since some tragic loss in the family, her mother only leaves the house to go buy groceries plus I hear that she constantly pours herself in studying.”
“Dude are you serious? You’re actually worrying about family details?” asked Eric annoyingly, very obvious to Kevin, “And how do you even know all of this?”
“There called rumors, okay and I’m serious. Don’t you thinks it’s odd?” asked Kevin,“I mean, if it wasn’t for the fact that Emily occasionally invites Abby to parties, I bet she wouldn’t even have a social life. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating. I don’t know what to think. Abigail sure is a strange girl at best.
“Speaking of strange, why is the door of the shed wide open?” questioned Eric pointing toward the shed, “Didn’t you say you were the only one with the key?”
“Yea, w-what are you talking about?” Kevin swiftly walked over to the shed to get a better look, “I think...I think someone kicked the door open.”
“What? Serious?” asked Eric quickly walking to where Kevin was standing, “You think someone broke in? Who would do that?”
“Why ask me?” answered Kevin squinting his eyes in the darkness, as if that would do any good, especially since it was pitch black, “Do me a favor help me find the light switch, my dad installed one about two weeks back.”  For a good twenty seconds they both began to move their hands up and down along the wooden walls of the shed, careful not to get a splinter, “I found it,” said Kevin and without wasting another second, he flipped the switch, and before his very eyes he saw something that would hunt him longer than he could've ever imagine, “Oh my god,” Eric couldn’t even speak upon seeing such a grotesque sight, his eyes remained wide open with shock, fear, and doubt.
“Oh my God!” repeated Kevin, he couldn’t believe his own eyes. The cramped shed was a complete wreck, shelves had been knocked over, shards of broken beer bottles were scattered across. Almost everything was either toppled over, broken, bent or ruined. However, despite the hell ridden room, all their focused was upon a young teenager girl laying on the floors of the shed, with not one sign of life to be seen. They were unable to see her face for her hair was nothing more but a catastrophe, her makeup was smeared with tear stains flowing down her cheeks, parts of her clothes were ripped and torn. Dark purple bruises covered her wrists, arms and neck, her legs also shared the markings of purple bruising. There was a small amount of blood on the girl’s nose, as if someone punched her. Most of her nails were chipped or broken or torn off. Her blue sandals were ripped apart. Kevin and Eric were trapped in fear, it was as if their minds could not function.
Finally, Eric came to his senses, “Check, check h-h-her pulse!” he shouted. Kevin rushed over toward the body, as he leaned closer to feel a pulse, he had a strange feeling that he knew this girl. He quickly shook it away, he waited, but he didn’t feel anything, “She’s dead,” answered Kevin with a shaky voice.
“Crap! This is, this is just crap! Crap! Do we- do we even know this girl?” asked Eric frantically, unable to contain himself whatsoever. Kevin gently moved the girl’s hair revealing her face, “Oh my God! It’s, it’s Emily!” Eric couldn’t move, he couldn’t even speak. Kevin, on the other hand, instantly came to his feet and began to dial a number onto his cellphone.
“W-what what are you doing?” asked Eric frantically.
“I’m calling 911.”
“Yeah, good idea...What!? No, man you can’t! The cops will be over this and see everything, they’ll see the drugs, the beer, the everything! You can’t!” protested Eric.
“There’s a dead body in the shack and it happens to be Emily; my friend! And you’re telling me not to call 911?! And for what?” answered Kevin with cleched fits and swelled up eyes. Eric’s eyes were racing to and fro, everything was happening so fast, Eric tried to stammer out a response, but Kevin didn’t care to wait any longer.
“911, what is your emergency?”
“Y-yes! My name is Kevin Steele, th-there’s...there’s a dead girl in my shack, I think she was murdered or something. Get over here fast!” pleaded Kevin with urgency.
“Okay, I need you to calm down. Now, what is your location?”

The police arrived in Kevin’s house within minutes, along with an ambulance truck. It took a while and great effort for the police to gather and calm the mass of high schoolers. When the cops first arrived, panic rapidly spread across the household, as if it was some kind of wild fire. All the teenagers thought they were “busted”. Everyone, everywhere were running about the house, with an abundance of urgency, it was almost as if they were a bunch of headless chickens. Abigail had to muscle her way through the various frightened faces, twisting and turning her body, she finally was able to reach Kevin, who was earnestly trying to grab the attention of an officer.
“Officer, sir, I need to take you to the shed right away!”
“Yea, just as soon as my men cleans up this mess, kid!” answered the policeman with a booming voice filled with frustration.
“Kevin! What in the world is going on? Why are the cops here?” asked Abigail frantically. Abigail didn’t know what was going on, her mind was completely lost. Kevin looked at Abigail only to turn his head away the very next second. He couldn't bring himself to tell her what happened, let alone look her in the eye.
“Officer, please!” shouted Kevin.
“What’s going on?” asked Abigail twice as earnestly as before, but Kevin didn’t respond. Abigail fell deep in thought, what could have happen? Who called the police? Why? Was it illegal drugs or something? Her mind was bombarded with a hoard of ideas and notions.
Eventually, all the commotion died down. The cops were successful in gathering most of the teenagers; as a few were able to escape, Eric included. Kevin was finally able to lead a small group of policemen and women to the shed. Abigail was waiting quite anxiously in the living room, with the rest of the confuse teenagers. She couldn’t understand what in the world was happening? Before she could begin to squeeze the puzzle pieces together, she saw a forensic team rush inside the house, then quickly left into the backyard, past the swimming pool and toward the shed. Following them was a group of policemen carrying a big roll of yellow crime scene tape. Abigail stretched her neck as far she could, as an attempt to see what was taking place. While she was witnessing all of this, back at the shed, the police were asking Kevin various questions.
“How did you discover the body?” asked the same officer with the booming voice.
“We were out of beer, so I went into the shed to get more. My friend Eric came with me, but I don’t think he’s here anymore. I think he was one of the few who got away.
“What’s he hiding?” asked the officer sneering rudely.
“He ran away, because he didn’t want to get busted for underage drinking I guess.”
“And what about the victim, do you know her?”
“Her name is...was” began Kevin trying to stay compose, “was Emily Bennett , we were close friends,” Kevin was unable to keep still, his hands trembled, “She’s the sister of Abigail, one of the guests...guests here,” his voice started to break.
“Here, right now? We’ll need to ask her questions right away. She might be able to shed some light about all of this,” explained the officer in a very systematic voice, “Someone go get this Abigail, and uh... be sure to break it to her gently...better make it female.”
Abigail, was sitting on the floors of the living room, she was deep in thought, when suddenly a police woman approached her, “Abigail Bennett?”
“Yes...” answered Abigail hesitantly.

“Come with me please.”
